The ERA Diamond range of offset reflector antennas is ideal for satellite news gathering (SNG), broadband Internet and military satellite communication applications. These antennas provide the flexibility needed to cover planned short term sporting events as well as unforeseen natural disasters and conflicts. The range includes reflector sizes of 1m, 1.2m, 1.5m and 1.8m, covering frequencies from C-band up to EHF band, either independently or as part of an integrated reflector system. Many of the designs have been type-approved by major satellite operators.
Flyaway and vehicle mount systems are available, using carbon-fibre reflector technology, and the systems can be supplied with or without mounts. Flyaway systems can be segmented and are designed for easy transportation and rapid assembly.
Diamond antennas meet the sidelobe specifications of 29-25 log(θ) dBi in all azimuthal planes with a 10 dB improvement on this template at Ku-band in the plane corresponding to the geostationary arc. The inherent problem of high cross-polarisation associated with single offset reflectors is overcome by the use of a 'matched-feed', employing higher order waveguide modes which counteract the effects caused by the reflector asymmetry. The very low sidelobe radiation characteristics of these antennas enable high powers to be transmitted without infringing the off-axis Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) regulations, noticeably increasing uplink data rates.
ERA’s high-performance Diamond antennas are the premier choice of leading system integrators who provide satellite communications for live broadcasting. Furthermore, single and multi-band Diamonds also provide battlefield advantage for secure communications using dedicated military space segment and enhanced non-secure military communications with the increasing use of commercial satellite capacity. Antenna designs based on this well-proven concept are currently used by armed forces world-wide.
