REACH Chemicals Regulation -implications for the electrical sector
REACH enters force throughout the EU in June this year and represents the most major change in the regulatory environment for chemicals for over 25 years. The regulations have both a direct legal impact on electrical producers, distributors, suppliers and importers and end users and several indirect affects of business critical significance.

ERA is planning to run a half day briefing on the implications of REACH - possibly in June. Please could you let us know if you would be interested in attending.

Substance identification: FT-IR and TGA - key tools in forensic investigation
Substance identification is frequently key to establishing failure modes and suggesting root causes. ERA’s forensic toolkit includes FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infra-Red) spectroscopy and TGA (Thermogravimetric analysis) which are often used to unlock this information.

   

“Looking for a needle in a haystack” – using ERA’s new automated particle detection system
ERA’s new SEM and microanalysis system allows automated inspection of small particles distributed over large areas. This capability is being applied to many critical applications such as fuel contamination, IT system contamination and turbine failure.

   

Update on China RoHS
As the China RoHS marking requirements enter force on 1 March 2007, ERA’s Dr Paul Goodman reviews Chinese Ministry guidance on implementation.

ERA Worldwide Guide to RoHS Compliance, 5 th Edition just published
Our popular guide has been revised and expanded to cover the spread of RoHS-like requirements globally. The guide deals in depth with “EU-RoHS” which, while in force, is still subject to developments and problems of interpretation and technical compliance. Increasingly, however, the emphasis is moving outside of the EU. This edition of the guide covers the latest on China and California RoHS in detail.
