ERA Technology has become one of the most recent affiliate partners to join the Leonardo Power Quality Initiative (LPQi). The LPQi is an education programme on electrical power quality, supported by the European Commission and the International Copper Association. It develops and implements a range of training programmes, aimed at consulting engineers, electrical contractors and maintenance managers. The objective is to increase understanding of the origin, problems, diagnosis and solutions relating to electrical power quality issues in buildings and industrial premises.

The LPQi operates power quality seminars around the UK, which are run with the involvement of a number of partners offering insights into their specific field of expertise. ERA consultants regularly present at these seminars, recognising that education is the first step towards improving the reliability of a power system. ERA’s power systems team offers delegates a wealth of technical and practical experience and provides unrivalled access to power quality consultancy services, resilience audits, and failure investigations.

The LPQi seminars are free to attend and are run in the evenings and throughout the day around the country. They cover the most important power quality issues faced by businesses today. Power quality problems lead to unplanned downtime, wasted resources and higher energy costs, yet they can be easily detected in advance by measurement and monitoring, and cured by the application of the most appropriate mitigation techniques. Best of all, the effects can be avoided altogether by good design practices and by choosing the right equipment.

ERA also provides a comprehensive range of IET-endorsed 2-day training courses, where key power quality issues are explored in more detail. These courses include ‘Introduction to Electrical Circuit Protection’ and ‘Distributed Generators – Connection, Protection and Control’.
