ERA’s family of low-profile scanning antennas is designed to provide high data rate communications 'on-the-move' with near hemispherical coverage for a fraction of the cost of conventional phased array.

For a number of years, commercial and defence systems integrators have sought low-profile scanning antennas for their mobile communications applications. In commercial systems, where aesthetics are critical, low-profile designs increase market potential and provide product differentiation. For military applications, they make it possible to integrate systems onto a variety of small land, air and naval platforms. Until now, the only solution available has been the electronically scanned phased array, which remains too costly for high data rate communications applications.

ERA has developed a family of phased array antennas using a range of hybrid electronic / mechanical scanning approaches which, now make the low-profile array a commercial reality. The antennas rotate in azimuth and offer a wide elevation scan using ERA’s unique and patented scanning technologies (see below).

Working closely with system integrators, ERA is taking part in broadband programmes for airborne, rail and road applications. The innovative antenna design is being implemented in trials in both the US and Europe. A single polarization antenna for TV reception 'on-the-move' has been productionized, whereas antennas for rail applications will go in production later this year.
