ERA Technology Ltd, the world-class engineering consultancy firm based in Surrey, has been awarded two prestigious three-year rail safety engineering contracts by Bombardier Transportation - London Underground Projects Division (BT LUPD).

Both contracts will support Bombardier Transportation, the world’s leading supplier of rail transit systems, with their delivery of 1,738 metro cars and new signalling systems for the Metronet Rail BCV Victoria Line Upgrade (VLU) programme and the Metronet Rail SSL Capability Upgrade works.

The first contract awarded is for ERA to provide Independent Safety Assessment (ISA). This will ensure that the approach to safety engineering is robust and thorough, and independently assessed as such. To provide the best solution for Bombardier, ERA has assembled an expert ISA team which includes Interfleet Technology from Derby. Both ERA and Interfleet are respected ISA organisations with a wealth of rail safety expertise which is reflected in their individual ISA accreditation with Network Rail.

The second contract is for ERA to provide Software Assurance services to assess the development of BT LUPD’s supplier’s software which relates to the safe and timely handover of the new trains and signalling systems to Metronet. Through this important assurance process, ERA will determine that sufficiently rigorous development processes have been used to fulfil the required integrity level. In addition an important aspect of the work is to provide confidence that the software will be delivered on-time.

ERA provides a pragmatic, efficient and knowledgeable approach to safety engineering, which combined with its long history as an Independent Safety Assessor (ISA), was the professional pedigree sought by BT LUPD in delivering such important projects.
