A declared MoD aim for future acquisition is to reduce risk, encourage innovation and increase the competitiveness of the defence industry whilst delivering projects within performance, time and cost parameters.
The MoD acknowledges that standards provide the fundamental building blocks in the design, procurement and maintenance of defence equipment and are an important element of MoD procurement strategies. |
In seeking to use standards more intelligently thus to avoid 'gold-plated' military equipment, the MoD continue to place a greater emphasis on, and willingness to use, industry and commercial standards in preference to military standards wherever appropriate.
The ASSC provides a unique MoD and Industry forum to implement appropriate avionics systems standardisation strategy through dedicated technical investigations, a network of industry workshops and a dedicated ASSC website. It will support and facilitate the current and future MoD capability (DEC), acquisition (DPA) and support (DLO) strategies with a particular emphasis towards Affordable Avionics.
