| ERA Technology's two-day conference
and exhibition "Designing and Recycling Electrical and Electronic Equipment"
will this year be held at The Renaissance Solihull Hotel, Birmingham, on 9-10
November 2004. As the deadline for compliance gets ever closer, it is vital
to focus on the practical solutions to the implementation of both the WEEE and
RoHS Directives. The conference will encourage discussion on how the lessons learnt
in the past few years should be applied to the imminent EuP Directive and its
introduction into legislation. Presentations will cover a European overview of
the WEEE implementation, procedures of complying with RoHS as well as the eco-design
of electronics. With very few of the EU states having issued their implementing
legislation by the deadline of 13th August 2004, it is imperative that a cost-effective
solution to the WEEE and RoHS dilemma is found. The conference, now in its seventh
year, has involvement from the DTI, Delft University of Technology, GAMBICA, Oracle
Corporation, HP UK, Royal Philips Consumer Electronics, Save Waste and Prosper,
and SML Recycling. Gemma Crawley of Johnson Matthey said of the 2003 conference
"Presentations were informative and well timed, questions were answered well
and plenty of time was given to this aspect. There was lots of opportunity for
networking." For a copy of the course programme or for further details
