| ERA has launched a new business
system resilience service aimed at owners and operators of real-time data
systems, such as data-centres, financial dealing floors, large websites and call
centres. In recent years, a great deal of attention and investment has been
focussed on the resilience of software and computer networks for processing real-time
data. However, modern office buildings and their critical IT systems depend on
a number of essential services, such as electrical supply, cooling and communications.
Unfortunately, in many cases, the quality of this underlying infrastructure has
not been addressed, leading to unscheduled and costly outages in critical systems. A
simple or apparently insignificant problem, such as an overloaded circuit breaker
or interference from a local transmitter, can cause computer systems to collapse
or business to be interrupted. There are many possible causes including utility
outages, EMC issues, installation quality problems or even spurious fire alarms.
These factors are rarely considered together under one overall risk assessment.
ERA's new business system resilience service has been designed to tackle all aspects
of the problem by bringing together capabilities from a wide range of disciplines.
Leo Bjorkegren at ERA explained: "ERA's combined expertise allows
us to audit and analyse every aspect of a business infrastructure, locate critical
problems, and specify actions to ensure appropriate system resilience." About
