Transport Industry Sector Head
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced consultant to be responsible for driving the growth of the safety and EMC services offered to the transport (predominantly rail and automotive) sector business. The role combines technical delivery capabilities with business development responsibilities. It is essential that the candidate has previous experience in undertaking or assessing the wide range of safety activities defined within a Rail or Automotive safety lifecycle, whilst also having the capability to lead bid development opportunities.
Main role and responsibilities will include the following activities:
To manage and coordinate business development for the Transport Sector through the production and implementation of a Sector Strategy and Action Plan including:
- Understanding the key business needs and drivers of our target customers / target sectors to maximise the value of our services;
- Working with the Sector Team to research markets, identify customers and strategic project opportunities, providing updates on key news and market/ customer intelligence;
- Planning and coordination of business development activities to cover new customer visits.
- Determining pricing of proposals and ensuring that ERA achieves the best rates possible for the proposed programme of work.
- Manage the Transport Sector Order Pipeline and produce weekly Pipeline Reports covering New Prospects, Status of Key Outstanding Prospects, New Proposals, Status of Key Outstanding Proposals
- Key account management of existing clients for repeat business.
- Lead client visits as appropriate and provide support to Engineering Consultants on visits as applicable.
- In addition, the Transport Sector Head will be expected to support the technical delivery of projects, and therefore competence within the Safety and/or EMC domain is essential.
Key skills are likely to include
- Hazard identification and analysis sessions including writing up results of activities and identification of SIL allocation requirements;
- Risk Assessment and demonstration of ALARP;
- Preparation of Safety Case Reports and Safety Arguments;
- Independent Safety Assessment;
- EMC Modelling, Measurement and Analysis.

Accountabilities:
Responsible for order intake within the Transport Sector, reporting to the Safety and EMC Business Development Manager.
Qualifications:
- A good engineering degree, and in preference, a post graduate qualification.
- Experience in the key transport domains of rail and automotive.
- Extensive experience in safety engineering/safety management and, in preference, an awareness of EMC.
