Human Factors Integration
ERA's Human Factors consultancy experience is firmly based
in engineering projects, utilizing a range of standard safety
engineering techniques and those specific to Human Engineering.
We take an integrated and pragmatic approach to risk reduction,
from feasibility and requirements specification, through data
acquisition, to full safety case production, representation,
and critical appraisal and beyond.
Human Error Identification & Analysis is Not Enough
All too frequently, the consideration of Human Factors
in Safety Engineering is limited to the provision and analysis
of human reliability data obtained from textbook databases
such as HEART or THERP. This approach alone however is no
longer sufficient to satisfy the requirements of the HSE,
the MoD, the CAA, and other regulatory or contract awarding
bodies.
Corporate Manslaughter
Lack of provision of appropriate evidence can result in
an indefensible safety case, leading to rejection by the regulatory/contract
authority or worse, to a charge of corporate manslaughter.
At ERA we have a more sophisticated, professional and defensible
view of the requirements for safety management and reduction
of project-related risks. In the development of safety cases,
we use appropriate and robust methods, using a representative
sample of system users, in applicable test scenarios, to obtain
valid and reliable data.
Our professionals are formally trained and qualified in Human
Factors, and have sufficient experience to offer not only
the standard range of Human Factors services, but also those
of Independent Safety Assessment and Expert Witness.
